featured image for Sidekick theme

Do I need to use a panoramic photo to get the image to display the full width of the browser? It appears just uploading a regular image means it will just take up half of the header, and not look great…

Hi,
Featured images and header images are not the same thing. Header Images are displayed quite small on the Sidekick theme. The recommended size of the header image at Customize > Header Image is 480 x 150 pixels.
See the Featured Images support page to learn how to set a featured image on a page or post. When you set a featured image on your static front page, you may use the same file image that you’re presently using for the header image, since it’s dimensions are 1500 x 469, and the Sidekick theme guide says:
Sidekick will display a post’s featured image, full browser width, if its aspect ratio is at least 3:1 (width x height) and its minimum width is 1500px.
