Featured image for twenty eleven
-
Hi! I have been using WordPress for a while and I’m loving it. But i’m also afraid of it. When I try to do anything new, I end up with a look I don’t want. This happens when I try to set my feature image. I may be confused about what that means. I think it means that if I set my feature image, that set image will then be the thumbnail for the post. What happens though, Is that set image becomes the banner for my blog. I don’t want that. I’d like to be able to choose which photo will show up as a preview to my post. Is that possible with the Twenty elven theme?
Thank you Much :) I’m always impressed with how quick you all are to help…

Hi there! Glad you’re enjoying your adventures in WordPress. I agree that featured images can be confusing! That’s because themes can use them in different ways. For example, some themes display them near each post on the blog page, and others display them in the header area on single posts. Some themes do both, and some do neither, or use the featured image in a different way, to achieve the effect intended by the theme’s designer.
In Twenty Eleven, the featured image of a post is pulled into the header on the single post view.
For example, on this post, the flowers were added as a featured image, as well as inserted as an image into the body of the post itself, which is why they show both in the header of the page, as well as with a caption within the post:

I’d like to be able to choose which photo will show up as a preview to my post.
Could you clarify a little bit what you mean by “preview to my post”? Once I understand a bit better what you’re after I’ll see if I can help with an answer. Thanks!
