Featured image — how does it work in my theme?

My site is hillkeep.wordpress.com and my theme is Museum.
It has only 3 pages so far. The front page is a page. The other two are posts. (I can’t remember why I set it up as both pages and posts. Lost that info somewhere on the learning curve, perhaps while I was trying out a different theme. )

But — I have an image set as my featured image. I want it on my front page but not elsewhere. Instead it is turning up elsewhere but not on my front page.

Specifically, it does not show up on my front page (WELCOME), so I inserted it there again as a regular photo, but that photo is smaller and placed below the header instead of above it. Meanwhile, over in one of my blog posts (ABOUT US), the featured image appears full width, above the header, as I had hoped would happen on the front page, and another image that I put in appears below the header. If I remove the featured image from this page, the other image vanishes, too.

My theme seems to make featured images page-wide, whereas the images I can insert are merely text-wide. It’s the wideness, not the featuredness, that attracts me.

    Please advise.

My question must have seemed not worth answering.

Meanwhile, by experiment, in my superficially inflexible free Theme, I have managed to create 2 px horizontal rules above and below text. I’m sure what I’ve done is not magic, but it is plain that only some HTML5 code is visible on the screens of Free Theme users. And that quite a lot of CSS is beyond access.

I am no longer expecting replies, just making a comment.

    Best to all
