Featured image in My Life theme

My reading of the documentation indicates that in My Life theme (which I love) I can have a Header image, but I can override this header image on particular posts and pages if I select and load a Featured image.
Is that correct understanding?
So far I can’t make it happen, though I have selected a Featured image on several pages and a post. Any ideas please?

No, that’s not correct: featured images replace the regular header image on some themes only, not including My Life.
Which documentation are you referring to? -
This page lists themes which have featured images, and My Life is among them.
Then the Featured image page says (my emphasis):
In addition to featured header images, a variety of themes also support alternative featured images, such as slideshows, post thumbnails, and images attached to featured posts.
And then it lists My Life as “also” having this feature:
Featured Images appear on Sticky posts at 100 x 100
But if it doesn’t allow this feature, I will either try another theme or individually put images on each page.

The first page you linked to lists the themes that support FIs in general. The second page you linked to includes a link to the page you need:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/featured-image-header/The passage you quoted is wrong: it gives the impression that the themes listed below it support header FIs as well as alternative FIs (while this is true of very few themes only). The passage should read:
“In addition to themes that support featured header images, a variety of themes support alternative featured images”.

Yes, I understand what you are saying, and can see that the WordPress Support wording is misleading and your blog is clearer.
It’s funny though that the Edit page still has a “Set featured image” link in the bottom right corner. You’d think this would only appear if the theme supports it.
Anyway, I’ll move on and start putting images in manually on each Page. Thanks again.

The Featured Image module of the post editor isn’t available if the theme doesn’t use FIs. My Life does use FIs, in its own limited way: a FI will show as a thumbnail at the upper right corner of a sticky post.
