Featured image is too large in the post

Featured image is to large when it appears in the post. I have reduced the size using the edit option but it still appears too large.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Your theme, Motif, is always going to try and make that image fill the full width of the post’s body. Normally this is used for scaling larger images down.
I think if you’ll reduce the image’s width to below 600 pixels it will stop trying to expand it though.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi, it is regarding the image which appears when you share a blog post on Facebook.
I thought that by using a featured image in my blog post Facebook would select that but no and the images they select are not always the most relevant to the topic, any suggestions……………..
Thanks. -
Facebook decides what image to use, but WordPress does it’s best to suggest images to use in this order:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#images-in-publicize
- Featured image
- The first image of a Slideshow within the post
- The first image of a Gallery within the post
- An image attached to the post and inserted
- Any other image in the post (not attached but perhaps linked)
After those, it can be kind of a tossup between any other image on the page and even your Blavatar.
To make it trickier, Facebook caches its results. So if it gets shared once, and you change it later, we Facebook may not update to the new information. They do provide a tool where you can force it to grab new information though:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/
Enter the web address for any posts where you’re having issues, then click on “fetch new scrape information” Let me know if that fixes it?

I entered the address of the blog post that I wished to share on
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/ and pressed the fetch new scrape information.I shared the blog post on facebook again but still the old thumbnail.
Did I do something wrong? Thanks

Ah, okay. So that’s your posts page. The featured image you set for that page doesn’t really get set anywhere because WordPress is just displaying all your posts instead of using that page’s content.
WordPress’s ‘suggestion’ for that page will almost always be your Blavatar.
If you’ll try out the Facebook debugger on a specific post though, you’ll see it grabs your featured image. Here’s what it looks like for your post at https://allthingsaromatic.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/counting-sheep-suffering-from-anxiety-discover-the-power-of-lavender/ :

Blavatar is the image you set in your general settings:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/
Basically, there’s not much to be done about your page at https://allthingsaromatic.wordpress.com/aromatic-musings/ . It will use your Blavatar.
But if you share https://allthingsaromatic.wordpress.com/2015/05/14/counting-sheep-suffering-from-anxiety-discover-the-power-of-lavender/ Facebook will offer several image options, but if you shared it over Publicize it would use the featured image.
