Featured Image on Coraline
-
My website is serresnaturo.wordpress.com. I had problems with ‘featured image’ (menu item Pêche Naturo) and found out that if I was displaying the post through a category the featured image wasn’t working. I went around this problem by placing the post directly in the menu item instead of the category. However, the resulting information displayed isn’t quite the same and I tend to prefer what I had before. However using a different image for this post being more important, the post is currently set up as is in the menu. Are you aware of this situation? Is there a solution? Is it something I do wrong?
Thank you for your help,

Hi there,
The reason you aren’t seeing your featured image when you create a menu item from a category is that category menu items are designed to display all posts with that category tag. In your case you only have one post with the category, but if you had others they would also display when you went to the category menu item. Because multiple posts can be associated with the menu item, there is no one featured item that can be used for the header.
In what ways is the post displaying differently now that you have the post as the menu item instead of the category? Is it something I can help you with?
Best!

Thank you, this answers my question. What is different on the post is displayed right before its title. Instead of having the category description, it has a link to the previous post (“← Recette du moment”), which in this case is absolutely not related. Let’s say the setup is a strange one as the business owner of the site, which is growing and selling vegetables, decided to add information for their fishing business on the same website. This is why having a different header was so important. I am very new at WordPress so this is very possible that things could have been done differently. This was my very first project… If you could see things being done differently, please feel free to offer any comments.

If you don’t want the link to the previous post, you might consider converting this information to a page instead of a post. You can still set a featured image on a page, but it would not display the link at the top.
