Featured image on grid page varies in size

    I’m trying to understand why my featured images varies in size on the parent grid page using the Goran theme, but I don’t get it.

    Se example.

    Frankly, I’d like all of them to be rectangular as the left one. That will compress my page height.

    Does anyone know?

    Find out something more: In my upload directory there is an image_carousel_thumbs directory. For testing, I renamed it to something else, and created a new empty directory with the same name. This was created without write access for www_data. I now got an error message for all square images complaining about lack of write access. However, the image on the left (which is in landscape format), did however show up as normal. It did not exist in the original thumb directory either.

    So Image Carousel is the culprit. Disabling it for the single grid page did not help, deactivating it did halp. But then I lost the image carousel where I wanted it in the photo galleries.

    However, I’m still puzzled why Image Carousel messes up most of my featured images, while others are left out “correctly”.

    It looks and sounds like you’re working on http://www.emap.no/wordpress/ is that right?

    That one is actually a self hosted WordPress site, which is a little different from the WordPress.com hosted sites this forum is geared towards.

    Posting there will get better answers that are more in line with your setup.

    Regarding your images, it looks like an issue of the aspect ratio of the images you are uploading. Goran’s grid page doesn’t crop the images into a uniform shape, so if you upload a landscape oriented image (like the one of the left) it won’t line up with a square, or portrait oriented image.

    Try uploading images that all have the same width-to-height ratio. You can crop them to the size needed either before you upload them, or in your Media Library.
