Featured image on home page

Most featured images that appear on my home page (Rowling theme) are the same size and appear horizontally cropped. But one image is larger than the others, and appears portrait rather than landscape. I’ve tried playing around with the photo to no avail. What might be the cause?

    Hi!

Your website is set to private so I am not able to see the particular issue. I’ve looked up the info about the Rowling theme ( https://wordpress.com/theme/rowling/ ) and under Featured Images this is stated:

To help tell your story visually, Rowling uses Featured Images as entry points to your posts. They’re displayed just below the title on blog posts. On index and archive pages — which have a grid layout — Featured Images are displayed as thumbnails above the post title. For optimal results, select a Featured Image at least 1200px wide.

Could it be that the image you are having issues with is not at least 1200 pixels wide?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I think the problem probably was a too-small image; ironic that it would result in a too-large thumbnail. I was able to upload another version of the photo that was larger and it solved the problem.

    Thanks!
