Featured Image Problems

I have a couple Featured Image problems:
How can I control which image is the featured image of a post? When I toggle it in my screen options menu, nothing happens. I don’t see it anywhere on my back end dashboard.
How can I prevent the featured image from displaying very large at the start of the post and then repeated at the smaller correct size where I inserted it into the post? I don’t want it at the start of the post at all.
A couple more issues not about the featured image:
I don’t want my tags to show on my blog posts. How can I hide them?
How can I get my blog post titles to appear to the right of the corresponding image on the home page?
How can I get my navigation menu to be centered on my page like the word “Photography” is? How I can make the font larger and bold?

The featured image module is down on the right in the post/page editor window. You choose and set your featured image there. To keep the image from showing up twice (featured and also in the post content itself) do insert the featured image into the post content.
