  The picture I posted as a featured Image for a portfolio isn’t scaling properly in size;
  how can I adjust the size so it fits the box?

  This type problem is common in wordpress.. if your theme is not work properly then you install new theme..

  Try new theme, or if you are familiar with css find the relevant css class or id
  and override it.
