featured image ,slider – top of oxygen theme – how to change ?

    oxygen slider header

    hi there, i read about your featured images but not sure if i understand

    very new here, just week one of using wordpress!

    OK – so I have oxygen
    I want to choose my ‘featured posts’ that will appear in that slider thing at the top of oxygen – the pics that change every few seconds – that thing…

    SO – how do i do that exactly?

    I know it has something to do with
    (1) choosing my 5-10 top posts that I want to feature up there in that post slider thing
    (2) choosing featured images

    and then GETTING IT UP into that sliding banner thing in Oxygen – you know the one? the one that moves and changes photos (which also have the intro to the post written in a white space bar)

    How do I do that?

    i have the 10 posts i want to ‘feature’ in that sliding thing, with the 10 pictures i want to showcase…now how do i do that?

    ALSO _ how many TOTAL # of pics/posts can I incorporate into that featured image slider thing at the top of Oxygen?

    The Oxygen theme and every theme that has “featured images” will display only the gray boxes unless or until you set a featured image of the correct dimensions in each post.

    In Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
    Page templates can be set under the “Page Attributes” section on the page editor screen. For more information on Page Attributes:

    Showcase page template
    When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …

    Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.

    If you failed to upload and set a featured image of the correct dimensions in each post then until you do upload one into each one the gray box will be there.

    Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.

    Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
    Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

    hi there,
    thank you so much for all details above
    i am going to give it a shot.

    i think my question is – if you look at my blog – see how HUGE that photo is on the first page / when you look at it? (me in hat)

    WHAT did I do wrong?

    I think when I uploaded it, there was a glider/bar thing where you SELECT the portion of the photo you want to show… OR not select anything…

    and so i didnt select anything.

    I see with oxygen they use more long-ish photos – in the theme , you know? they are more horizontal pictures

    did the author have to crop each of those pics to get them horizontal?

    bc it DOES look nice… to have the blog post photo (that is listed on front page) to have all those photos – narrow/lean/long

    but…. my question is… what if my photo /lead photo is vertical? in format? then what?

    can i only use horizontal photos for the lead photo that will appear clickable to read the post?

    and also – what did i do wrong that my picture is SO huge and takes up all of my first page?

    I would like to thank you with all my heart! Your reply has solved all of my problems! I was getting so frustrated because my featured posts were dissappearing and now I understand that it was because my featured images were not big enough! Thank you!
