Featured image stretching posts

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi, first of all apologies if this is easily sortable, I might just be completely missing things. I have noticed that on the desktop version of my site, the featured image on every post is taking up a bigger space than it needs to. This is making the posts appear stretched and uncentered with a lot of blank space on the sides. It looks fine on mobile but it is putting me off using the theme (Rebalance) if it can’t be resolved on desktop. For example, you can see with this post (https://surajradia.wordpress.com/2018/07/07/manchester-a-second-home/) that, even though the picture is smaller, it is taking up more space than it needs to and is making the text go to the right despite being aligned left as default. I would like it so the text is centered below the image, perhaps with the image being shrunk by default to an acceptable level.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

    even though the picture is smaller, it is taking up more space than it needs to and is making the text go to the right despite being aligned left as default.

    On the Rebalance theme, the featured image on a single post, regardless of its size, does not affect the alignment of post content text. Also on this theme, not only is text not aligned to the left by default, as you suggest, but there is no option available at customize to produce that alignment. The alignment seen in your single posts, and in posts on the Rebalance demo (see this post, for example) is that produced by the theme’s design.

    I would like it so the text is centered below the image, perhaps with the image being shrunk by default to an acceptable level.

    Due to the theme’s inherent design and theme customization options, that might not be possible. However, I’ll call for staff attention to see if they might have any relevant suggestions for you.

    The image is beyond what can be customized, but the text placement could be done via CSS: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

    Try this:

    .single .hentry .entry-content {
        float: none;
        width: 100%;
    }

    Thank you both very much for your replies. Unfortunately I am not a premium member so I can’t do CSS and it appears that the off-centre text is actually how it’s meant to be. I have decided to try out a new theme and, although it wasn’t ideal to change the appearance, it seems to have resolved any preference issues I had and has ended up looking quite nice I think! Thanks for the help!
