Featured Image tab is missing

Featured Image tab is missing from my website. About a week ago I noticed when in New Post that featured image is no longer there. I tried Screen Options and it is not there as well. My theme is Able.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The theme, Able, is one that doesn’t support featured images.

What is strange is that I have had it for the past 1 1/2 and it suddenly disappeared last week. Was there a change to the theme?

Hi there,
It seems that you could enter the Featured Image for a long time, but that they weren’t actually appearing anywhere. We had a user bring that up to us, so we researched it, and then got rid of the box.
If you think your featured image was appearing on your site, or elsewhere, could you let me know?
How was the lack of the featured image box changed the way your site functions?

The featured image was working on WordPress – but it did not carry to Facebook (they picked whatever photo they wanted).
The featured image was valuable when I posted many photos. I liked that I could pick out the key photo.
For the past couple of days when I posted 3 photos WordPress chose which photo was the “featured” photo – not me.
Please bring it back!

Could you tell me where the Featured image was displayed? On your home page where your blog posts are displayed, in the Reader, etc?
Also, could you give me a link to a post where the Featured Image DID work correctly, and one where it didn’t? It would be a great help, if possible, if the posts you link have multiple images.

Thank you so much. I went back through all my posts and of course the featured image tab was missing from all of them now too.
My post called Photo of the Day 285 – I picked the photo of the brushes as my featured image.
It appeared as the lead photo on reader and when received an email about a new post it was the photo they saw when they received the notice. When it worked (and I mean when since Facebook has a mind of it’s own) it was the image I chose for Facebook to display as a primary photo on my page.
Now when I post I have no choice as to which is the featured image. Today I posted and it chose the gallery portion of my post to display on reader, etc. I would have picked a single photo.

Please note that Facebook chooses the thumbnail photo when you share your post. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that featured images even in themes with the Featured Image feature will show up when you share.
What you can do is check what Facebook is sharing by adding your post to Facebook’s Object Debugger:

When I checked the post you mentioned, I found that the image with the brushes was the image being shared as seen here:

Thank you. I understand the issues with Facebook and I have resolved that by posting directly on Facebook and bypassing Publicize. My main concern is the missing featured tab. What can I do to get it back? It is accentual that I get it back so that I may determine what my main photo will be. I understand you removed it because it was not working for another blogger but it was working for me. Please tell me how we can resolve this issue. Thanks again!

Very disappointed the Able theme disabled featured images. I have used the Able theme for 1 year and 8 months and it always had a featured image tab. Low and behold someone decided to remove a main feature AFTER it was figured out it should not have been there in the first place? Is there a logical and technical reason why it can not be reset – other than it was never intended to be there? I have used it and relied on it – seems unprofessional to arbitrarily change it. I spent hours looking for a theme that worked for me before choosing Able. What happened to all the posts I previously uploaded where I chose the featured image? If I have to choose an new theme what happens to all my old posts? Will they look all wonky? REALLY bummed…

It really depends on the theme. If you apply a new theme, I highly suggest previewing it first. Then, most likely you will have to make some changes to the design/widgets to get your desired look.

I understand that but will my old posts look funny on a new theme? Will I have to go in and make adjustments to each one – there are hundreds.

The design of your posts will differ by theme, but the actual content will not change.
