  Is it possible to add a visible image description to a featured image?

  Hi there,

  That’s not possible, no.

  If you edit the image in the media library itself, you can assign Alt text to it, which is visible to assistive software like screen readers, but featured images cannot be captioned as they don’t form part of the post content. Instead, they’re meta-data that’s simply connected to the post, and not all themes even display them.
