Featured Image Twenty Ten

I’m sure this is an old chestnut, so sorry to repeat but can’t find the answer in the forum. What size image do I need to make the Featured Image option work in my Twenty Ten blog please? Editing my pic before adding it to my media file doesn’t seem to work either.
I have this problem EVERY time I post – which isn’t very often – and it’s a struggle resulting in some hits and some misses. Please help so I can finally get it right every time!

I’d like the answer to the same question. I too am just beginning to use Twenty Ten and would like to add feature photos with my posts.

For featured images to be displayed in the header area in Twenty Ten they need to be at least 940px wide by 198px high. You’ll find the recommended dimensions on each theme’s showcase page, in the Quick Specs box at the bottom:

Hi Kathryn: Pleased to know about Quick Specs. Thank you. I managed to do the header feature image, no problem. What I am asking, however, is about the specs for linking a feature photo to a single posting. There appears to be an option within the theme, but no indication of size. When I tried to add a feature photo to a draft posting, using 640 px as the maximum width, the first time it didn’t appear, the second time it replaced the header feature photo….so for the moment I have removed the feature photos from the drafts. I would however, like to be able to add feature photos to each post….

Hi Fran – the way Twenty Ten uses featured images on posts is supposed to work is like this: if the featured image meets the theme’s minimum dimensions (940px wide by 198px) it will be displayed in the header area.
Twenty Ten doesn’t display featured images in any other location in the theme. It only displays them in the header area, and then only if it meets the minimum size.

My pleasure. Other themes display featured images on the blog index near each post, for example, so if you prefer that sort of display you might want to take a peek at the theme showcase and see if you find one you like better. Twenty Ten is also an older theme that isn’t responsive (i.e. doesn’t adapt automatically to mobile devices) so this could be an opportunity to change things up and go with a newer, responsive theme. If you need any help with theme selection, feel free to start a new thread!
