Featured Image Will Not Update

I change the featured image and update the page. When I view the page it is showing the old image. If I change text on the page it is reflected immediately. It’s just the featured image that won’t change. This is just a wordpress.com page so no plugins. How can I solve this problem.

The image that won’t update is the one that is part of the template and is at the top of every page. Other edits to individual pages do update so it appears the styles are not updating. It show correctly in the editor.

The image appears correctly in the editor. I update and then view the page, but the old image still appears. That’s the problem.

If I log in view the page, click ellipsis in the lower right, click “Get Theme: Skeptical”, click “Activate” then “Customize your site” I get this message:
“You are not allowed to customize the appearance of this site”. Interesting since I am able to make other changes to the site. Maybe there is a permissions problem. -
If you delete the unwanted image from your Media Library it will remove it from all locations within the site. Have you tried to delete it? And then upload the new image again?

I deleted the old image and updated the page – old image gone. Added the new image, updated page – new image still not there. I have rights to add or remove from the media library but not change the “Featured Image”?

Have you gone through Customize in the bottom right corner, selected Header Image, then uploaded the desired image, and saved your changes? https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-header-image/

I have edited the page a few different ways, including the WordPress desktop app, but have never seen a “customize” button.

When logged into your dashboard, do you see the ‘Customize’ link next to Themes?
