Featured images – 2 problems
-
The featured image on my home page displays at less than full height. It needs to be displayed at full height. The featured image on my Posts page doesn’t display at all. I get a set of generic images from WP.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
After looking into your blog, I could not find a featured image on your Home page or in your posts. If you are still having issues with this, please take a look at the support guide below:
Cheers!

Thanks for your reply – yes, I undid all the failed stuff.
Reading the Featured Images link you gave, it seems that I want a Featured Header image, and my theme (Twenty Eleven) says that it allows these.
However I can’t see any option for it on either the Edit Page screen or the Appearance>Customise screen. Any idea where the option might be?

Hi there,
I’m not quite sure what a Featured Header image is. I read over the support guide for Twenty Eleven and I don’t see that. Can you show me where you read that?
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyeleven/
Please note that featured images can only be put in posts and/or pages.
If you’re talking about Custom Header images, you can add that using this guide:
-
In the Featured Images page you linked above, there’s a link to Featured Headers –
“Featured Header Images
Note: This feature only works with themes that allow custom header images and have featured header images enabled.”I clicked the link in that sentence to get a list of themes that support Featured Header and Twenty Eleven was on that list.

You do this by uploading and setting a Featured Image for static pages and individual post pages. You will need to size and crop the image before you upload it to the exact size required for a header on the theme which is 1000 x 288 pixels. Just set it as a featured image – do not insert it into the page/post.
Cheers!

I have created a new page called test.
I has set a featured image for this page. The featured image does not display.

Hi there,
I looked at the page and the image is too small. I found that it was only 299 by 126 pixels. It needs to be 1000 x 288 pixels. Please resize the image and upload it when it is 1000 x 288 pixels. Then it should appear.
Cheers!

Thanks but still a problem.
I set a 1000px+ featured image for the test page and it displayed.
I then set a 1000px+ featured image for the Posts page and it didn’t.

Hi there,
After looking into your account, I found that your last two recents posts did not have a featured image uploaded.
Please let me know how which post you added this to and I’d be happy to take a look!

We seem to be talking at cross-purposes here.
I added a featured image to the test PAGE and to the Posts PAGE. Not to individual posts.
Here’s what I want to achieve – can you help me do this?
I want different header photos on my Home page and on my Posts page. According to my theme description I should be able to add either a featured image or a featured header image to any page.
However I am unable to successfully do that.

Additionally to above – the Featured image on the test page (this is set to private but I assume that you an see it) DOES display; the Featured image on the Posts page DOES NOT display.

Hi there,
Please note that Twenty eleven supports featured images in the header area on static pages and single post pages – meaning not the post page (it is not static), but the individual posts itself.
If you want to change the Posts page header, you can do that if you edit CSS.
For this to work properly, please make sure the image is exactly 1000 x 411 px. Please upload an image of that size to your Media > Library and get the url of the direct image. Then please go to Appearance > Customize > CSS in your Dashboard and add this:
.blog #branding img { display: block; -moz-box-sizing: border-box; box-sizing: border-box; background: url(INSERT URL OF YOUR IMAGE) no-repeat; width: 1000px; height: 411px; padding-left: 1000px; }Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
