Featured images and theme previews
-
My current theme (Opti) supports featured images and I’ve used them with every post since switching to Opti. Many other themes, when previewed, now show duplicated images in each post (my featured images are usually the same as the first image in each post). I’m assuming that if I activated one of those themes, I’d have two of the same image in each of my posts, and that the only fix would be to remove all my currently featured images. This would require going back through all my posts one at a time and removing the featured image from each via the edit screen — a very tedious and time-consuming process.
Would I indeed have duplicate images if I changed themes, and if so, is there a way to remove all featured images globally instead of having to edit each post individually? I’m afraid I know the answers, but I’d appreciate confirmation.

I think what you’re seeing is that some themes use the featured image as a custom header, replacing the regular custom header (if enabled) for that post and regardless of whether the featured image is also used in the post or not. Setting the theme to not display a custom header might prevent the duplication, but I’m guessing even that can differ from one theme to another.
I’m afraid I don’t know of any way to disable all featured images in bulk.

If it were only the header, I could control that. But when I look at the posts and see duplicate images appearing in them, I have to assume that’s what the theme will display and that to prevent it, I’ll have to remove all featured images. It’s discouraging, because a lot of themes do it.

What you could do is take a few screenshots of theme previews where you see this, then we can tag this for staff and they’ll be able to tell you if it’s intentional or a bug.
Also let me know the names of a few themes doing this and I’ll see if I can duplicate the issue. The more information we can give to staff, the better the chance of them solving it quickly.
