Featured Images for Posts not Replaceable

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

On my blog, Just a Young Reader, I want to change the featured image of this post. However, every time I attempt to replace the featured image, it seems to either revert to its previous image or not process the replacement input properly. I do not know what is the actual reason (which is why I am here).

As for an attempted remedy, I do not know what to do. I tried to restart the WordPress App for Mac (I use MacBook, macOS 10.12.5) to no avail. Thinking this was caused by the software, I restarted my machine, but was disappointed after that didn’t work, either. I then proceeded to open WordPress.com on Google Chrome, which again didn’t work.

If anybody knows a solution to this problem, please let me know A.S.A.P.!

    Thanks so much!

  • Hi there,

Basically, it sounds like a web browser issue. However, it seems that you already tried most of the basic troubleshooting you can do. Moreover, I couldn’t reproduce the issue on my end although I switched my theme to “Twenty Seventeen” and tried to change featured images on some posts.

The only thing I can recommend you now is clearing a cache of your browser and trying again.

Just in case, I’ve tagged this thread for staffs. Someone of them reaches you and assists you soon. Please wait for a moment patiently.

    Thanks :)

  • Hello –

justayoungreader, please let me know if clearing your browser cache helps.

    Hello,

I cleared the browser cache, but the featured image still cannot be replaced.

I tried to change my theme, thinking perhaps the theme is causing the problem, but I am still unable to replace my featured image.

The only option I have left is to duplicate the post, or cut-and-paste the text from that post into another post and THEN add a new featured image.

Please advise me on what to do next.

    Thank you.

  • Which post are you trying to change the featured image on?

    Hello,

First of all, I apologize for the late response. I didn’t see this till last night.

Second of all, I believe I linked the post in the first post of this topic. It is this post: https://justayoungreader.wordpress.com/2017/07/06/shogun-review/

Third of all, I have noticed a new issue. Whenever I attach a featured image, WordPress always upscales (meaning it increases the size) of the image. E.g., I want to upload an image of dimensions 275 x 587 pixels, but it gets upscaled to dimensions of 576 x 945. I believe this is a bug of some sort.

    Thank you once again.

Never mind, I figured out the solution!

You save the image onto the desktop and upload it to Microsoft Word, where you right-click the image, click “Save As”, and save it as a JPEG file back on the desktop. For me, the images were saving as PNGs right from the start! Do PNGs induce some sort of bug on WordPress whereby it gets upscaled (because JPEGs are saving in their original dimensions)? Anyhow, I am glad that this got resolved.

    Thanks for your help anyway!

  • Good morning –

I’m glad to hear you’ve sorted this out.

Both .png and .jpg are accepted file types.

Are you working through an app or browser? Can you share which type and version?
