Featured Images not appearing on home page (Bakersville 2)

  • Unknown's avatar

I have featured images selected for all of my posts, but only a few of the early posts display with their featured photos on my homepage. I love the Bakersville look because there are photos for each entry on the homepage on the template example. Can I have all of them show up with their featured photos and excerpts automatically?

I have the blog display set to ‘post excerpt’ which I like, and I like the ‘Continue Reading’ link. I’ve figured out how to manually go into the blog post and create the post excerpts to with the html of the photo and the text excerpt that I want, but when looking at the homepage the pictures are smaller and they’re not linked like the other ones that automatically appeared.

For example, my older post ‘Vamos al Bush’ has the featured photo automatically on the post block, which is linked to the post, and then post excerpt below with a ‘Continue Reading’ link.
As opposed to my most recent post ‘OK, FINE, I’ll go to Tikal,’ where I pasted the html for the photo into the custom excerpt box. This photo doesnt fill the grid box and does not link to the post. Therefore, the only way to click through to the blog post is by clicking on the title.

    Help!

    Hi,

You seem to be referring to the site https://traveldonts171047682.wordpress.com/.

As opposed to my most recent post ‘OK, FINE, I’ll go to Tikal,’ where I pasted the html for the photo into the custom excerpt box.

I believe that the pasting of the image HTML code into the custom excerpt box is producing the unwanted result (smaller images, not linked to the post). Do you have featured images set on those posts? If not, then doing so and removing the image HTML code from the excerpt box should resolve the issue.

Can I have all of them show up with their featured photos and excerpts automatically?

Some post formats will hide featured images on the blog page. That might be the cause in those cases where your featured image is not displaying on the front page. Try the standard or chat post formats. Posts on the blog page will automatically display as excerpts if you chose the box labeled “Post excerpt” at Customize > Content Options > Blog Display, and don’t add a custom excerpt. The automatic excerpts will be 55 words long followed by the Continue Reading → link.

@Staff: The “modlook” tag was already present when I arrived at this topic.

  • Hi there,

    @musicdoc1
is correct. The image you added this way in the https://traveldonts171047682.wordpress.com/2018/11/07/ok-fine-ill-go-to-tikal/ post, as an example, is only an image. You did not add any HTML code to also hyperlink the image, so it won’t link to anything.

And adding the image in the manual excerpt like that overrides the theme’s built-in feature of using the featured image for the thumbnail – if it didn’t that would result in two different images being shown, or the same image being show twice.

You have the same image set as featured image on the post. Remove the image code from the excerpt, and that featured image should be used for the thumbnail instead, and that will be automatically linked to the post.

@musicdoc1 Yes!! Changing the post formats solved the issue. You are a wizzard!!!

Hey, Sorry one more issue. Now, my posts aren’t appearing on the homepage until I scroll halfway down…. Did I mess something up?

The post thumbnails look great though! I changed the format back to “standard” for all. Thanks for that.

    You’re welcome! : )

I’m not seeing that. The front page looks normal to me. Sounds like it may be, or may have been, a browser issue. Are you still encountering that error?

@musicdoc1 Huh! I checked it out on Internet Explorer and you’re right, it’s fine! But still having the issue on Chrome. Maybe I should clear my cache or something.

Oh well sounds like I’m all set! Thanks again.
