Featured Images not displaying in Gazette theme

On the featured content mini menu of the Gazette theme, the featured images are not displaying. The theme preview lists 6 tiles (food, technology, etc.) with corresponding “featured” images. But when the theme is applied to our blog, the featured content menu just displays text. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the featured content mini menu of the Gazette theme, the featured images are not displaying.
It’s not clear what you’re referring to as a mini menu.
The theme preview lists 6 tiles (food, technology, etc.) with corresponding “featured” images.
What do you mean by “featured content menu?” Food and Technology are two of the categories on the Gazette demo, and they are menu items in the primary or header menu. These categories aren’t necessarily related at all to the six featured content posts that appear as tiles at the top of the front page, above the menu.
The Featured Content and Featured Images section of the Gazette theme guide says (bold added for emphasis):
The homepage features your choice of up to six posts that are prominently displayed in a grid, and controlled by a featured post Tag name assigned to these posts and set in the Customizer → Featured Content.
However, in tests I just now made I found that pages can also be included among the six featured content items, but the featured images of pages don’t display in the grid while the featured images of posts do. That’s a bit unexpectied, so I’m going to call for staff attention.

Hi there,
The site you indicated in your post is using the Cubic theme, not Gazette. On which site are you seeing these issues?
I’m also not sure what you’re referring to by the featured content menu and featured content mini menu. Gazette only has two menus – the main menu at the top underneath the featured content section, and a social links menu in the footer. There’s no separate menu for featured content.

I did notice that Cubic was applied to the OP’s site, but chose to ignore that, presuming that they had switched to from Gazette to Cubic due to the described issue with Gazette.
The findings, with the Gazette theme applied, that caused me to call for staff attention were the following:
- 1. Pages as well as posts may be included among the six featured content items. However, the featured images of pages don’t display in the grid while the featured images of posts do.
- 2. The Gazette theme guide neither mentions that pages may be tagged as featured content, nor that if pages are tagged as featured content they will appear in the featured content grid, but their featured images will not be displayed.

Thanks for clarifying. I’ve confirmed this on a test site and reported it.

Yes, I had missed that, but as I mentioned in my first post here the Featured Content and Featured Images section of the Gazette theme guide says (bold added for emphasis):The homepage features your choice of up to six posts that are prominently displayed in a grid, and controlled by a featured post Tag name assigned to these posts and set in the Customizer → Featured Content.
with no mention of pages being eligible for the featured content grid as well.

Ah, okay. Didn’t spot that bit. I’ll update that description once the featured image issue is fixed.

Right, featured pages should now also show the featured image thumbnail. I’ve also updated the showcase page accordingly.
