Featured images with new post editor

As of today I see a new editor for creating and editing posts. How do I use image from my media library as featured image? When I click on “Set featured image” it just opens a file selection dialog. I don’t see any way to select an image from my media library. I am using wordpress.com in Chrome 36.0.1985.143 for Mac OS X 10.9.4.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having problems with this, too. Before the new post editor, I did not have to even set a featured images to get it to appear. Now, I do, otherwise it just inserts a placard. Also, like you I have to upload the image a second time, thus using data in my allotment for duplicate images on each post. My blog is sunearthsky.

Ah, looks like a workaround: You get the new interface for creating/editing posts when you use New > Post in the blog dropdown menu, but if you go to the dashboard and go to Posts > Add New, you get the old interface in which “Set Featured Image” works correctly. And from what I read, there are other problems and misfeatures of the new interface you can avoid this way too.

Hopefully they won’t take away this method of getting to the old interface before they get the new, not ready for prime time interface working (or come to their senses and withdraw it).

    And now I find this:

It sounds like you’re using the new editor at wordpress.com/post. Is that correct? If so, the features you mention (editing galleries and setting a featured image from your media library) are not available there just yet.

To access these features you’ll need to edit a post from your Dashboard. You can find your Dashboard by using yoursitename.wordpress.com/wp-admin. From that screen, click “Posts” and then “Edit” underneath the post you would like to edit.

Featured images and gallery editing are two issues we’re looking into with the new editor!

    “Looking into”? APPALLING.
