Featured photo as well as whole blog post?

Hi, I’m trying to connect the blog posts with the menu and now, when I click on the menu, it displays the featured photo (cropped, not necessarily in the way I want) as well as the whole blog post (that is: a lot of photos)! Is there a way to change that? Only the featured photo, if possible with some options about how to crop, and the link to the post itself?

  • Hey there, your theme is a bit older, so it’s not as easy to modify on this sort of thing, but have you considered using a blog posts block?

You’d make a static page for your blog, then add that block to it. You can configure the settings as you like.

Thanks for the idea. I guess, I’ll have to play around it with that to see whether it can solve the problem!
Or would it make (more) sense to change the theme?

  • It’s always better to use newer themes, but before you decide to give your blog a makeover, create a new draft page and try out the block @supernovia mentioned above. If you like it, you may get what you wanted without having to find a new style :)

Ok, I tried to play around with the blocks a bit… But I’m not sure I did it right. ;)
Now, for some reason, when I look at the page “Nature” (in the admin area), I can see the posts “Water and Light”, but also “Mauerpark”, which should be under “Music”.
When I visit the site, though, nothing has changed: it shows the correct posts (that is, the category “Nature”, but as before, with the featured image as well as all the photos in the post.
I also looked at the theme “Photos”, but I don’t like the idea of having only the photo without any information on the page. Is it possible to change that, show the title of the post, for example? I tried, but so far haven’t been able to figure it out.

  • OK. I see what you’ve got at
    https://friederikekronauer.wordpress.com/nature

Can you click on the blog posts block, find its settings, and make sure you’re choosing the nature category?

    Thank you! I think I managed… :)
But just for my information: would it be possible to customize the other theme “Photos” so that it shows the title of the post?
And at what time does it make sense to change the theme?

  • The Photos these was designed specifically and almost entirely for photos, as such there is no way to add a post title to it. Essentially, the photo is the title.

Changing themes is a personal choice, there’s no right or wrong time to do so. :)
