featured post not showing up in The Apostrophe Theme
-
I’m not sure what happened, but one of my posts (They answered: Person X) is not displaying. When I access it in the dashboard, I can see that it has been published. I can also see its featured image in the Top posts and pages widget in my secondary sidebar.
How do I fix this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could you please provide a link to the post in question or let me know the post title so I can investigate? Thanks.

This is the post that is not showing up on the feed.
This is the main post page. ashleyspriggle.wordpress.com. You will notice that the “They answered” post is missing. I can’t figure out why since it says that it is published, and it shows up in the top pages& posts widget.
Thank you for taking a look.

@ kathrynwp, @ashleyspriggle,
I believe it’s a featured image dimensions issue. See the different shape of the featured image for that post (“They Answered Person X”) on the 2015 post archives page. It’s the only featured image that doesn’t appear as a square on the posts page and on category, tag, and date archives pages. The Apostrophe theme guide says,For best results, upload an image that is at least 930 pixels wide. Featured Images will be cropped to fit to the grid.

Correction:
It’s the only featured image that doesn’t appear as a square on the posts page and on category, tag, and date archives pages.
Delete “on the posts page and,” leaving
It’s the only featured image that doesn’t appear as a square on category, tag, and date archives pages.

Looks like there’s an issue with featured posts in this theme – regardless of featured-image size, they’re not displaying on the blog index, sorry about that. For now, could you remove the “Featured” tag on that post to get it displaying? I’m reporting this to our developers to get it fixed up and we’ll keep you posted here.

Musicdoc1- the post was displaying properly earlier in the week. Kathrynwp, thank you. I figured that something got messed up with the theme’s coding.
Kathrynwp, Also, when you talk to them can you also ask about the header. Currently the header doesn’t scale properly across any device. If you shrink the webpage the header starts to cut off instead of shrinking to meet the new dimensions of the page. On tablets or phones where the screen is smaller the header ends up cropped.
I’ve also found in the customizer that this theme’s header is listed as 1090pixels by 300 pixels. I’ve found that this is not the case. Anything over 200pixels high gets cut off. I believe the length to be incorrect as well, I just don’t have an adequate pixel number for that. (It’s possible this issue could be solved by solving the header scaling issue).
Thank you again,
Ashley -
You could try adding your header as a logo, in the Site Title, Tagline & Logo section, instead of as a custom header. This theme supports both, and the logo is usually a better way to add an image with text.
The custom header is a background image that does will cropped on smaller devices.

I’ll investigate this.

Indeed the logo feature works well across the spectrum, however it’s limited to size constraints, just like custom headers are. (sample sizes general fall in 100X100px, 150X150px, 250X150px, 350X75px, 400X100px, 468X60, 728X90px). These size constraints generally aren’t told to us. Any image uploaded to the logo will be scaled to the logo area’s dimensions. This becomes frustrating when someone is customizing their logo. Logos that are designed with a larger dimension end up shrinking and the detail put into it goes away since it is so small. -Ergo it’s better to utilize the custom header.
The best custom headers also use image scaling. A person can design a header to the developers recommended specifications. Once added a simple scaling code can automatically adjusts the image across all platforms. It makes the header smaller (while avoiding coping) on smaller devices, while enlarging it to fit on regular computer screens. It’s been a while since I’ve coded a scaleable header, but it can be done in CSS after the fact. It’s just an annoyance that can be avoided.

Thanks for your input – I definitely understand what you’re saying. In themes like Apostrophe which support both a custom header and a logo, the custom header is placed as a background image so the logo can be displayed on top of it.
I’ve also found in the customizer that this theme’s header is listed as 1090pixels by 300 pixels. I’ve found that this is not the case. Anything over 200pixels high gets cut off.
In my testing, I’m seeing the right side of a 1090 x 300 px header get cropped, and while I’m not seeing cropping at the bottom, the entire image is being resized. I’m going to bring this to our developers’ attention as well so they can clarify the intent, and we’ll keep you posted here.

Kathrynwp,
Thank you so much for you help.I’m sorry to be a pain. But do you happen to know the dimensions of the logo for the Apostrophe theme? I’m not really crazy about my header, so if I know those specs, I can specifically design a logo that will meet my needs.
Again, thank you for your time.

Oops.. ran into another problem. We were talking earlier about turning off the featured image on the post that was not displaying on the index. Since it is not displaying, and since we have changed over to the new writing/editing page…. how exactly do I turn that off?

Two ways:
1) Remove the tag “Featured” from the post in the post editor, OR
2) In the Customizer’s Featured Content panel, remove the word “Featured”Let me know if you have any trouble with either.

Not a pain at all. :) And sorry about these issues. When a new theme launches, that’s when these things tend to first come to light, so thanks for bearing with us.
A logo in Apostrophe can be up to 125px high, and its length gets adjusted to be in proportion to its height.

The issue with featured posts should now be resolved. Could you try adding back the “Featured” tag in the Customizer and confirm that everything looks as expected? Thanks!
