Featured post tag repeatedly 'disappearing' from my published post!

I’m having the same problem. Every time I edit my featured post, the featured tag goes away. None of the other tags go away, just that one. Also, I’m having trouble adding it back in. I can’t seem to add it in the post editor, only in Quick Edit from the All Posts page.

Update on the problem with featured tags going missing from posts several times a day:
I now finally know that my featured posts somehow stay in featured position (even to non-logged-in visitors) even after the featured tag has gone missing from the post. I was able to corroborate this on a friend’s computer. The post only seems to drop out of its featured slot if I click to update the post – at any point after the featured tag has gone missing.
The other day I was able to check on my blog on someone else’s computer after the following 3 of my 5 featured posts had all lost their featured tags:
Pick-up 3, You CAN put your loops down, Welcome to Loop BraidingPick-up 3 is also marked Sticky (for extra insurance against its featured tag falling off) but the other 2 are not sticky. All three were still in the “featured post” lineup on the homepage. Both to me on my logged-in computer, and to my friend on his computer where neither he nor I was logged in to WP. His computer had not previously been to my site since long before I added the featured tag to You CAN put your loops down. So his browser could not have ‘cached’ that post in its featured spot from seeing it there previously. It was somehow featured, even without a tag.

You’ve answered that already – you haven’t updated the post. If the tag is removed when you open the editor, but you don’t click Update, the post itself does not change.
We are still waiting on word from our developers on this. The moment we do hear something we’ll let you know in this thread.

It’s on the list for urgent bug fixes, and the priority has been bumped, but there are a few other cases that need attention first. I can’t tell you exactly when it will be fixed, but someone is looking into it.

I’m also now following this thread as my shutterclutter site using Altofocus is experiencing this issue.
@kokkieh, FWIW-My last post tagged with “featured” (Break the Internet”) was sized suddenly the same as the other posts on the front page of my site. Looking at the “featured” tags page in WP Admin, that post was listed there as though it was tagged “featured,” but the tag itself was missing from the tags column (temp screenshot). I added the “featured” tag back and the post is now displaying correctly on the font page again.
I realize I should have left it as it was so you could have a look and will let you know if/when it happens again.

@justjennifer, thanks for letting me know. This thread is listed in the bug report on this, so once it reaches the top of the queue our developers will see all the info here.

It’s currently being worked on, but it appears to be a complicated bug and it’s taking a while to figure out.
But it also looks like we should be able to fix affected sites from our end once the bug itself is fixed.

I just wanted to let you know that unfortunately at the user end, the issue only seems to be getting worse – where it used to at least stick for a few days before disappearing, the tag is now dropping out several times each day

Hi folks. Just an update on this. I’ve spoken to the developer working on this issue, and it sounds like we’re getting close to a fix. Because this is such a complicated bug we just need to make sure before we deploy the fix, lest it breaks something else in the process. We’ll update here with more info soon.

Hi everyone,
It’s been a long wait, but I’m happy to report this has now been fixed. Please go to My Site ->Customize ->Featured Content and make a change to your featured content settings, for example, update the tag, save, and update the tag again to what it was before. Updating the featured content display settings if your theme has any should also do the trick.
If you are still seeing the issue after doing that, please comment with a link to your site and I can take a look.

It appears there was a problem with the fix for this we pushed last week, so you might see things broken again, but someone is already working on it and things will hopefully not stay broken for long.
