Featured posts in Inuit Types

    I’m contemplating switching to Inuit Types theme and I’m using it on this test blog. I can’t work out the featured post. When I click on the actual post, I get the full width image which appears on the home page PLUS the original image. I don’t want the full width image to appear in the actual post.

    Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance.

    @raincoaster

    My question is actually about the treatment of images in featured posts … sorry, could have made it clearer. If I click on my featured post in my test blog (http://www.communicateforaction.wordpress.com) I see both the big, full width image that shows on the home page PLUS the original version of the same image.

    Ah yes, there is a different thread about images in Inuit Types. Maybe that will answer the question:

    You’re getting both images because you inserted them both into the post. For the front-page one you must click “Use as thumbnail” but not “Insert into post”.

    Thanks raincoaster. I read this one too, but they’re not talking about the exact issue I have.

    @panaghiotisadam,

    OK, I tried what you suggested. Now I have the full-width image on the home page and in the actual post (but no thumbnail in the post). What I want is the full-width image on the home page and a thumbnail in the post.

    Delete the “full-width” image from the post and insert the image as a thumbnail in the post.

    <img class="alignleft" title="1913" src="http://communicateforaction.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/dscn1913.jpg" alt="" width="128" />

    I don’t know how you managed to do that, and I cannot know what you’ve got in your media library now, so I suggest you start from scratch with another image: click the Add an Image button,select from computer, upload, click “Use as thumbnail”, wait till it saves, click “Insert into post” (after selecting, say, the Medium option), click Update Post.

    Note: default size for Medium and other options can be set in Settings>Media.

    (@Tess: What sgc calls “full-width” image isn’t the original: it’s the cropped version you get in the featured-post box.)

    Yes, I know. I managed to do that by mistake the first day Inuit came out, but now I don’t remember what I did!

    She can just delete and insert the same picture in whatever size she likes. My answer didn’t clarify that it’s a two step process. The “Post Thumbnail” is not the same as a thumbnail in a post.

    Hi Panos and Tess,

    Thanks for your suggestions. I’ve done a few tests, but getting the same result:
    http://communicateforaction.wordpress.com/

    This is what I did:

    > add image
    > select “From computer”
    > select “Use as thumbnail”
    > wait till it saves
    > select “Insert into post” (with image size = medium)

    Cheers,
    SGC

    Panos is much more systematic than I: used to take things apart to see how they worked but would forget to note what I did. Maybe he can figure this out? I wish I had noted how I got both the “post thumbnail” and the thumbnail that first day. (I think it would be the same as “post thumbnail” and medium image?)

    I can’t reproduce that now. Just to be sure:
    Under “Inuit Types Settings” you have:
    “Featured Post Entries” = “1”
    “One Column Featured Posts” = “ticked”

    What if you use 3 separate steps:
    1. Upload image from your computer. Close the “Insert an image” window.
    2. Click on “set thumbnail” in the “Post Thumbnail” module. Select image and click “use as thumbnail” let it save and close the “Insert an image” window
    3. In the post editor select “Insert an image” and choose choose the image then “insert into post.”

    THis is frustrating: I wish I could help…

    Should say
    “1. Upload image from your computer to your media library. Save, then close the “Insert an image” window.”

    Hi Tess. Thanks again. Very frustrating, isn’t it? I did it in three steps; same result. One thing I don’t get about the instructions which might be the bit I’m missing is where you say “Click on ‘set thumbnail’ in the ‘Post Thumbnail’ module.”

    I don’t see a module as such. Just the link to “Use as thumbnail.”

    Cheers and thanks,
    SGC

    Well, this might be worth a try:
    If you don’t see the “Post Thumbnail” module, then try clicking on “Screen Options” in the upper right-hand corner and be sure “Post Thumbnail” is ticked.

    If that doesn’t work, I’m out for now. I had a stressful day at work so it’s sleep-time for me: Panos will be in morning in an hour or so. I hope he’s more use…

    Or someone else may jump in with an explanation?

    It is frustrating. But computers and software are logical. But sometimes the logic is not obvious.

    Cheers, Tess. Thanks for all your time. Sweet dreams.
