  Is there a “featured Posts” widget that I am just not seeing. I have used it with the Academica Theme, but it must have come with the theme.

  I want to show a smaill number of Category Selected posts in a sidebar, showing both the title and a few lines of the post. using a thumbnail of the Featured image would be great.

  I am surprised that this is not easily available.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hello there,

  You are correct — that widget isn’t available on all themes. In fact, the theme developers of only a handful have included their version of that widget in their themes. For instance:
  https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/modern-news/

  However, you can use the following Display Posts Shortcode in a Text Widget to show your specified posts in the way you wish:
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/
