Featured Stories Not Showing in Main Content Area.

    Hello there.

    My theme is twenty fourteen.
    My site is http://www.thedesignflaw.com

The problem that I’m having is my 6 featured stories suddenly don’t show up in the main content section of the front page. This seemed to happen after checking the “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” option of the settings/writing section.
I also checked, in the settings/reading section to not automatically load past stories.
Once I did these two things, I checked my sited and all of the top 6 stories in the featured thumbnail section disappeared from the main content area. What remains now in the main content area are the older stories that should be showing up AFTER the 6 featured articles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Hi there. It seems like the most recent posts now appear in the featured stories. The most recent was published yesterday. If you don’t see it, try clearing your browser cache and cookies and see if that helps: http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

If you still have problems with this, let us know.

Hi Kokkieh! Thanks so much for your reply. I think you may have misinterpreted what I’m asking about. I did clear the cache and the problem remains on multiple devices and IPs.

The layout of my site has been, and should be, that the 6 featured stories are also the first 6 stories in the main content section. As it is now, the 6 featured stories do not show up IN THE MAIN CONTENT section. They do show up in the featured thumbnail section. So instead, the first story in the main content section is NOT the first story in the featured thumbnail section. It’s a much older story.

Hope this made sense, and thanks again for your time.

  • Thanks for clarifying.

I uploaded Twenty-Fourteen to my test site and no matter which settings I try, I can’t get featured posts to display both as thumbnails and in the feed underneath. If you didn’t say you’d had it like that before I wouldn’t have thought it could display that way. The demo site also doesn’t display posts in both the featured area and the main feed, so it appears like that’s how it’s designed and what you experienced might have been a bug that got resolved when you changed the settings.

I’ve found another thread which confirms this:

When a featured post with a featured image is placed in the slider then it does not display on the same page ie. on the front page of the blog in the stream of posts. Also note when a post is featured in the grid it will not appear again on the same page in the stream of posts. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-twenty-fourteen-recent-posts-arent-displaying?replies=2

    Thanks for your reply!

Well that’s really rather unfortunate. It was the other way for months and I grew fond of it. What are the chances of restoring this quite awesome “bug”?
Can I get my hands on some CSS code that could make that happen?

Would restoring an older snapshot do the trick?

    Any advice would be appreciated…

  • I don’t think it’s possible to restore the bug :-D

You can try the CSS Customization forum for advice on if it is possible using CSS. Keep in mind you’ll have to buy the custom design upgrade to implement any changes they suggest. (You will be able to test the changes from the customizer under Appearance in the dashboard, but you won’t be able to save it without the upgrade): https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform

See here for more info on purchasing the custom design upgrade:

  • I should also mention that your main feed displays all posts, so in any feed reader all your posts should be visible. http://thedesignflaw.com/feed/

Thanks so much for your time. I already have the CSS upgrade and have been trying to work with that. I decided to go another route that I actually like better, but again, thank you.
