Featured/Header Image of Low Quality

    Hi,

I bought this theme Eris which features a slider of featured work.My image quality on the featured work slider is lower than the actual image. It’s quality is well on the header of the portfolio project page, however on the slider it’s not. How do I fix this as it’s bothering me.

Also the image on the feature slide cuts off a bit.

Please help. I’ve attached some screenshots to illustrate this point. I’m also relatively new to wordpress so If this is a resolved issue, please just direct me to the solution.

Hi there, the theme and WordPress software have to create an image that is the correct size from your original uploaded image, and that is 1100px wide. Your original uploaded image is 3882px x 2730px, so that means the software is having to reduce that image down to about 28% of what it was originally. My suggestion is to downsize your images in your image editing program before uploading them with a width of around 1500px and they should then display far better in the slider.

On the cropping, again, the software has to make the image fit into the space available for it. If you keep your images in the same proportions as the space available, there should be little to no cropping. The image the software is creating for the featured post slider is 1.4 to 1 (width to height).

Hey thank you so much. Let me try it and get back to you.

No real luck on the quality. Isn’t there an override where I just have wordpress not reduce the image quality for the slider?

I played around for different widths of 1300 – 2000 pixels. The lower the width, the quality in the slider doesn’t change much, but then in the header for the portfolio piece the quality is lower.

No, that would require rewriting sections of the WordPress core files, and the thing is, the standard dpi on web images is 72dpi. On Retina displays such as on most Macbooks, Safari will display images at 144dpi if the image is properly sized. I notice your images are at 4000dpi. My only other suggestion would be to set the dpi on the image back to 144 and then make the image double the size that we had discussed and see what that does. I know this is a lot of hoop-jumping, but there really isn’t anything I can do through CSS to control how a browser renders an image.
