Fediverse followers not auto-approved? How to approve?
-
I just turned on the ‘Enter the Fediverse’ (or whatever it is) toggle on ‘Discussions’ setting in my wordpress.com blog. I tried to follow the fediverse id from my Mastodon account on mstdn.io, but the follow request seems to be in pending state. I don’t see any way to approve the follow request in wordpress.com.
What’s up? It’s been several hours since I did this, and it still seems stuck.
I’m on the personal plan, with no intent to upgrade to the business plan.
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hey @stillwaternc , can you tell me the Mastodon platform that you use, so I can maybe run some tests? I just tested it from Mastodon.social without problems.
-
Oh, hey, @pfefferle, I didn’t see this. I wondered why I had a follower so quickly. :)
I’m on mstdn.io.

-
@pfefferle Actually, might as well say I’m @(email visible only to moderators and staff)
-
Hey there @stillwaternc – we’ve found a few more cases of this, so you’re not alone. @pfefferle filed an issue here so we can track cases (I’ve added yours), and one at Mastodon where they’re trying to figure out the solution. We’ll let you know what we find!

I think I’m running into this problem as well. My blog is at @(email visible only to moderators and staff) . An account on infosec.exchange was able to follow it successfully; but an account on indieweb.social is hanging at “Cancel follow”. indieweb.social is running Mastodon 4.2.1 ; infosec.exchange is running 4.3.0.alpha-glitch.

Hi there, thanks for the extra detail. I’ve shared that info with our developers and will update here as soon as we have more info, thanks!
-
I’m also having this problem, just tried unfollowing and re-following, but still appears to be stuck. In my case, the Mastodon server is MSPSocial.net, v4.0.10+hometown-1.1.1. My blog hosted on WordPress.com has a custom domain name: https://steves.life .

Hey @jonpincus and @ssawczyn sorry for the circumstances!
It is a known issue, that WordPress.com has issues with instances that have “AUTHORIZED_FETCH” enabled (https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/config/#authorized_fetch) and we are still investigating why this is a problem!
I will post an update here if we found and fixed the issue!
-
Thanks for the response @pfefferle. That’s unfortunate. I upgraded just to be able to use the fediverse integration more effectively over the next few weeks, but if it’s only going to be available to people on instances that aren’t protecting their users from harassment, then it’s not useful to me. Any estimated timeframe for fixing this?

Answering the thread to get answer notifications – fwiw I also have the issue coming from octodon.social (I’m not the admin of this instance, so I don’t know how it’s configured wrt AUTHORIZED_FETCH.)
-
@jonpincus I totally agree and it will be fixed ASAP.
@ihurbainpalatin I had a look and yes it is also the AUTHORIZED_FETCH issue!
We are working on it at the moment and it will be released as soon as we found and fixed the issue!
Sorry again for all the circumstances!
-
@jonpincus @ihurbainpalatin we found and fixed the issue on WordPress.com.
Please let me know if the fix works for you.
The blog-profile might be cached by Mastodon, so please experiment with following both identifiers (for example
@(email visible only to moderators and staff)andhttps://getfisaright.net/@getfisaright.net), so that Mastodon clears the cache. -
