Fee waiver for nonprofits?
-
This isn’t so much a problem as a question — one that is probably answered with ‘nope’ but I thought I’d ask anyway!
I work for a nonprofit association, and we’ve joined an alliance of professional nonprofits focused on undergraduate education. Another member of the alliance has started a blog for us (psalse.wordpress.com) As we’re an alliance, we’re not ‘owned’ or supported by any one society. Thus, it can make it tricky to do things like purchase a domain name (who pays? does that give them more rights than the other societies?)–though the wordpress price of $18/name/year is a nominal fee (and for that, thank you!).
I wasn’t sure if there was a fee waiver for nonprofits, or in this case, an alliance of 20+ nonprofits all working towards education reform. My guess is that there is not! Ideally, we’d want to change over to just ‘psalse.org’ Thanks in advance for the info!

There is no such waiver of fee here. We all pay the full amount of every upgrade up front at the time of purchase. Also note that no upgrades at all are required for creating a successful blog.

Companies, organizations, and groups of any kind do not own blogs here. Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.
That person owns the blog and the upgrades they purchase for it. They have the ability to transfer blog ownership and or upgrades to another username account.
The blog’s owner must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased upgrades to renew them, or to transfer the blogs and the upgrades to another username account, or to use the lost password link, or the account recovery form, or to delete site content, or to delete the site itself.
You must log out and clear your browser cache and cookies before logging in under another username account.

Gotcha. If I am not mistaken, it *is* possible to get a .org domain name? It’s much more suited to what we are–this isn’t a blog so much as a convenient way to create a website for our alliance.
Thanks!

These the extension does not really matter but in fact you can purchase a .org domain URL through wordpress.COM if it is available. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#available-domains
