Feed problem on blog with lots of comments (and general feed/export problems)
-
I’m trying to help a client export her blog to a PDF, and there are some problems with the feed; unfortunately, when I try to run through the process with my own blogs, I’m finding problems with all the feeds (raincoaster.com won’t export at all!).
Her blog is http://gapsguide.wordpress.com/ and she has one post (which was a sticky) with over 500 comments on it. I told her to unsticky it, as I’ve experienced stickies interfering with feeds, and then I suggested she make it private.
She would really like JUST a PDF of the comments themselves, so we tried the comments feed; no luck. The feed for the main blog seems to stop dead at the bottom of the front page. The feed for comments pulls in six or so and stops dead. Can you help us? If she could get an XML file that was complete, she can take it from there.

Ideally, she wants one huge document with everything, just as promised in the Export feature. The export file itself we get is 6416kb in size; is that reasonable for a blog with about 240 posts, 3500 comments?

Just tried with a tiny blog of my own, and the export and print to PDF work fine. Could the problem be that both raincoastermedia.com and gapsguide.com use the More tag? But what would prevent the feed from going back past the first page?

And if staff could possibly generate that XML file for her, that would be awesome. She is writing an ebook and would like to at least have comments somewhere she can print out and refer to, as they suggest topics for the next book.

I don’t think it’s something in the feed itself. Rather the size of the feed is causing it to fail.
If you could have her contact us at support@wordpress.com we’ll see what we can do.

Will do, I thought that might be a last resort. Now, what can you do about the feed at raincoaster.com, which also isn’t exporting?
-
How many posts are you including in it at Settings -> Reading?
Would you be able to narrow it down to a range that works vs. doesn’t work?
-
I have five at that setting.

Goshdarnit!
Something has gone wrong with our servers. It’s probably Matt’s fault.
We’ve just been notified of the problem.
Hopefully this should be fixed ASAP, so kindly reload in a minute and things should be back to normal.
That’s all I get, no matter how many times I try.

Ah, now that we’re aware of. I thought you were referring to your RSS feed.
Larger blogs require a manual export at this time. Would you like me to send one to you?
