Feedback Thread for the Block Editor
-
I just use the classic editor (I used Gutemberg to make a specific page more atractive).
“They acknowledge that something is wrong with my admin page and it has been forwarded on to be dealt with.”
Maybe your account has a bug, but try changing the theme or entering the Calypso editor when posting something through the blocks and, then, try the classic editor on the administrative page.

@radtrad The age of the account is a factor here. There are other references to this earlier in this very long thread. I’ll add links when I have more time.
@cpj2020 your account is only a month old so your site will only have the Block Editor, also in WP Admin. It might be possible for Staff to switch your site to the Classic Editor with their internal tools but you’ll need to request them to do so. Keep in mind that once the Block Editor becomes the default for all WPcom, you’ll only be able to access the Classic Editor via WP Admin. -

Does this apply also to the HTML editor or only to the visual editor?
-
@halilac – the Classic Editor in WP Admin has and has always had both a Visual and HTML tab in the Editor interface for at least as long as I’ve been here.

@justjennifer
I know this, you have misunderstood my question.
Do I also have to go through the admin and classic to get to the HTML?
In other words, can I reach the HTML editor without this (e.g. via the block editor without worrying about blocks)?
Or to put it another way, does the block editor reached directly from the page have both a visual and HTML tab?
Please read my original question again. Thanks. -

If you are talking about editing HTML in the WP Admin dashboard, then yes.
If you are asking whether it’s possible to edit HTML in the Block Editor by switching to the Code Editor there, then that’s a very good question indeed. In my short experience of creating content in the Code Editor, when I exited the Code Editor, the resulting content was saved as a Classic Block.
Here’s what the Support guide says about this:By default, you’re in the Visual Editor. Switch to the Code Editor to view the entire page in HTML code.

If my answer still didn’t hit its mark, then I’ll let another volunteer or Staff answer you.

The block editor has a HTML view as well – you click on the … icon top-right and select Code Editor.
But for posts created in the block editor, that view will also show the block markup, which makes it tricky to edit directly.
If you prefer writing your posts in HTML, then I’d recommend either using the custom HTML block, or else sticking with the classic editor’s HTML view.
-
So now a question.
I ran across this just now in the Support document
https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/#convert-classic-content-to-blocks
What does “Edit as HTML” do or refer to here? TIA
-
That basically switches just that Classic Block to the code editor interface, just like switching the old Classic Editor to code did.
-
Thanks staff-blorbo! So that changes only the block you are editing to HTML rather than switching the entire content like the Code Editor does? That’s certainly more useful for my purposes. Thanks again.

It seems that the code editor is not quite the same as the HTML editor, hence it has a different name. But Jennifer’s picture shows Edit as HTML in the block editor!
Going backwards and forwards between the HTML editor and the page, as I edit, to keep checking how it looks on the page, is at present fairly simple. But if each time I have to go into My Sites then the Admin., then all the other bits to get to the classic editor, then all the way back each time to My Sites and load the site and reach the page to check how it looks, it is going to be a bit painful. (Bear in mind that I do 99.99% of my editing in the HTML page as the visual editor is unreliable for my work, and also often deletes stuff from the HTML, and hence from the page, after I merely enter the visual, do nothing and leave it, stuff which otherwise remains as long as I keep away from the visual editor.) This is what I was asking about.
I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. -
I like to learn new things but I just don’t get why this block editor is so awfully difficult to understand.
My blog has one active page that exist of a list. If I want to edit the list, which happens a lot, the editor divides my list into blocks, causing extra lines between the items on the list. This is not what I want. The items on my list are all hyperlinks. Before, it was very easy to replace them to another place in the list. Now I have to put the block in html-mode, cut the item I want to replace, go to another block, put that in html-mode, paste the item.
This costs just to much time.
I want my whole list to be one large block. But now, every time I try to add something on the top of the list, a new block is created! Thanks for the time and efforts in trying to listen and help all your users.

Thank you
But I don’t know what a List Block is or how to get it. I watched some instruction videos but none were helpful, as usual.Problem is not typing, but pasting. If I paste something in an existing list, an extra space line is created. I can only remove it in hmtl-mode (which was also the case in the old editor), but this system only shows part of the list as html, and a result I can’t see where to remove the line.
I’d show you an example, but I don’t know how to put a photo in here.
You can see it on my blog, list of movies with an L, unnecesarry space between Life of Pi and Lighthouse.I appreciate your attempt tot help me!

Would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to share a screenshot of what you’re referring to?
Also, have you considered re-building your HTML lists as a List Block? They’re far easier to manage that way: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/list-block/

Hello
Thanks for replying.
As I said, I don’t know what a List Block is or how to get it, I’ll check it out with your link.I resume my two problems
(picture 1): when adding something to an existing block, it divides the block in two blocks. That is not what I want.
(picture 2): when cutting an item from a block to add it to an existing block, a space line is created which I can’t remove, unless wasting time in html. -
