Feedburner subscription code issues

    I think this question must have been answered previously, but I can’t seem to locate it right now. I am wondering why does wordpress.com strips “type=”application/rss+xml” off from the text widget? I like the Feedburner page which lets user make selection from various RSS services including the email. But below mentioned code doesn’t work and I don’t see script or anything in it.

    <p><a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/IsmailiMail" rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml">Subscribe to Ismaili Mail</a></p>

    Without above code, the link just redirects to RSS page of the blog, unless I create two separate links, one taking users to RSS subscription and one taking users to email subscription.
