feedburner vs. wordpress subscriptions

I had previously used a different template to set up my blog and had successfully used feedburner to all automatic email subscriptions. I have recently switched templates (my current one) and am having friends enter their email into the widget apllicable. They recieve a message on my blog telling them to “Check their email to confirm their subscrtption” but when they check their email they have NO message. I check my Feedburner account on Google and there is no increase in registration eventhough people have been signing up. When I switched templates did it “turn off” my feedburner account? I don’t mind using the WordPress version I guess but how do I collect all those subscriptions that seem to be floating in cyberspace??? archstudy.wordpress.com

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s possible that the emails are going to their spam folder. That is unfortunately common. Switching themes didn’t disable feedburner, it just took the information that you were using Feedburner on the blog away; you need to just put it back if you want to continue using Feedburner. The widget uses the WP.com feed as far as I know.

But when I check my feedburner account it show I only have 2 subscribers. When I check the WordPress stats it shows I have 11. I don’t have to use feedburner. Is there a difference between the 2 really?

Yes, obviously. I’d say nine readers. If you delete your Feedburner feed, the people who got your Feedburner feed will get nothing. They will not get anything until they go to your blog and subscribe to the WordPress feed, which they might or might not do.
