    Hi I was looking at the different packages it says you get a year free so why does it try an charge you?

    I am not sure if I have understood you correctly but I think you are on the following page https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and wondering that when the paid plans such as Personal, Premium, Business & eCommerce says “Free Domain for One Year” then why do you need to pay?

    The thing that you need to understand is that domains are something that you need to buy at an extra cost. They are generally bought on a yearly renewal basis.

    The paid plans offered by WordPress includes 1-year subscription of a domain of your choice free of cost. So with the paid plan, you get hosting, domain and many other features listed.

    This is what it means.
