  A newly registered domain is free for the first year with a plan.

  Would you be willing to tell me about what site you’ll looking to build? If I know the functionality required, I can steer you toward the correct plan.

  I am trying to set up a website to share pictures from my retirement party . Will be send out thank you cards with a website to view pictures for my guests . Not sure if this is the right platform for this.

  This is totally possible with this platform. :)

  To have a custom primary domain, the site at a minimum would need also the Personal plan attached. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  Is there a site out there, that you’re looking to emulate?
