fetching image from remote site

I have a weather blog, in which I’d like to have automatically updating images on. I.e when someone visits a page, it downloads the image from url. Does wordpress do this? For example, i insert by url a weather picture which is updated remotely every 6 hours, will it also update my site with the new pic/will viewers see the latest version of this image? (provided the url doesn’t change).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there, metmanjames!

I’m pretty sure WordPress.com uses caches and that there is a possibility that images from other URLs may have difficulty displaying after an update on the remote site. That said, I think you should try it! Give it a whirl and see if you encounter any problems. It just might be fine and work the way you expect.

Rats. I’m sorry, metmanjames. I totally forgot about Photon (I’ll blame the self-hosted WordPress side of my brain where you don’t have to activate Photon in Jetpack).

Since Jetpack is automatically enabled and used for WordPress.com sites, I think you’re stuck.

No cache invalidations – currently the images are cached “forever”. If you want to “refresh” an image you will need to change the name of the image. Adding random query arguments, commonly known as cachebusters, will not work.

No problem! It’s a shame there is no option for this… I’m sure I’m not the only one who suffers from this!
