  Good morning all,

  I’m thinking about setting up a website and hope someone can answer some very simple questions I have about what wordpress can and can’t do. I’m not looking for any details at this stage, I just want to know whether what I’m planning to do is feasible:

  Is it possible to transfer a paid wordpress.com site to a self-hosted wordpress.org version?
  With wordpress.com blogs where you’ve paid for a custom domain, is it possible to set up email accounts linked to that domain, ideally through google? So for example (email visible only to moderators and staff)…
  Can you hide the site temporarily while you’re in the process of developing it?
  I need to allow the facility for readers to download various resources. Is it possible to upload files to each page for users to then download?

  Yes and you have two options:
  1. Do it yourself: https://move.wordpress.com/
  2. Have the WordPress.com staff move it for with the Guided Transfer option (paid): https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

  Yes, you are able to purchase a G Suite (formerly known as Google Apps) account: https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/

  Can you hide the site temporarily while you’re in the process of developing it?

  Yes, you can make your site private and only you and people you allow will have access to it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  Yes. This is a list of all the file types allowed on WordPress.com: https://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/
