Fictive Theme – Social Links Menu – How to open in _blank target?
-
I have tried to find the information on the forums but I am new to CSS and I am not sure if there is an easy way to add this to the CSS (I have the upgrade).
Basically, I want to open my links to Twitter, FB, and LinkedIn in a new window, but there is no option on the Appearance>Menu>Edit Menu page.Is there some HTML code I can add to the CSS?
Thanks to anyone who can help. Regards, Amanda

If you go back to the menu you’ve created and open the existing menu items by clicking the small arrow in the upper right corner, you’ll see a small check box at the bottom that allows you to open the link in a new tab. Note: the checkbox doesn’t show up when you add the link initially, you can only add it after the fact.

Hi, lizthefair, thanks for trying to help, but no there is no check box there for this option/menu. Is it just for this theme? Maybe. I wish I could upload a screen shot. I double-checked but it is not there.
The only text field to add information is called “title attribute”. I experimented earlier, adding _blank, I also tried by adding _blank to the web link in the url, but that did not work either.
Again, thanks for pitching in.

that’s weird, because I changed to your theme in my text blog to work it out. I also didn’t see the box at first though, so it’s definitely not super intuitive.
When you are on this screen: http://snag.gy/QGvZE.jpgin your menu do you not have the check box I circled in red?
If you go to snag.gy.com you can take a screen shot of what you see and then we may be able to figure it out together.

Well, I think I’m stumped. I’ve tried a myriad of options, and the check box is always visible for me. I’ve tagged the thread “modlook” so a staff person who can look at your actual dashboard will stop by as soon as they can to see if they can figure out what’s happening.
There is a CSS option that is supposed to do what you are looking for (http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_target-new.asp) but it isn’t supported by any browsers yet so that doesn’t really help either. . .

Cheers my dear. Your time is appreciated, and your extra efforts. I truly thank you. Amanda

Hi Amanda,
You can get that “Open link in a new window/tab” check box to appear by adjusting your screen options on the Appearance > Menus page. In the upper right corner of the page, click the “Screen Options” tab. Then, check the box next to “Link Target.” Here’s what that looks like:
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

You’re welcome! Those screen options hold a lot of little settings that are easy to overlook if you don’t expect to find them there.
And many thanks to lizthefair for helping out earlier in the thread. :)
