Fighting against trolls

    Hi all,

I came across with something funny and serious at the same time. As in the past i had some issues with one twitter account named with a nickname, i moved to one with my personal branding and left that one free for other people. My fault.

Now comes the moment where i found that that account has been taken by someone against me, and she has still links to my wordpress and gravatar information. So when i post an article, automatically says is that accounts name instead of myself.

I’ve changed all twitter accounts in those to settings, but still is displaying on twitter when the article is published the troll’s account. How can i change this? Is there anything can be done from support services? There is nothing else link to that account except for WP and Gravatar.

    Thanks

  • Hi there. Just to clarify, you’ve changed your Twitter username, but when people share your posts to Twitter it still shows the old username in the tweet?

Go to Settings ->Sharing and make sure 1) that the correct Twitter account is connected under Publicize (see here for instructions on reconnecting Twitter) and 2) make sure you have the correct Twitter username specified at the bottom of the Settings ->Sharing page.

If you’ve done that and the posts are still mentioning the wrong Twitter username, let us know the old and the new username in this thread and staff can make sure the change goes through.

    Hi Kokkieh,

Thanks for the quick reply. The thing is on WP. All my settings are correct with my actual twitter profile @victormadueno. But when i shared the other day the latest article directly from the sharing option (just publishing my article), the name that appears on Twitter is the old account (@el_madu). Giving on twitter authorship to this troll instead of me directly.

Why is this happening if all account settings are pointing to @victormadueno’s twitter instead of @el_madu?

    Thanks

  • I don’t know why it happens, but it happens quite regularly. Staff can fix this for you, so I’ve tagged this thread for their attention. Please be patient while waiting for their reply.

The short answer of how this happens is that when you change the username in the Twitter publicize connection, the old name gets cached on the old posts meta-data. We just have to repair the meta-data on our end. :)

You should be all set on https://entrependinglife.wordpress.com/ . Let me know if you have any other WordPress.com accounts/sites where this is an issue and I can repair those as well.
