File Backup
-
I am a complete novice when it comes to anything technical about computers etc.
I have been told I should back up all my blog files etc but have no idea how to do it or where to start, can anyone offer any advice etc?
Someone said I needed to use a wordpress plugin but I thought on a free wordpress account you cannot use plugins?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thankyou
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com makes regular, frequent backups of our blogs. However, if you wish to do so, you can make a backup file by exporting your blog following the instructions here http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/

Thankyou so much for your prompt reply, I have done it and hope that I got it right, I now have an xml file on my computer, is that what is supposed to happen?
-
Yes you seem to have done things correctly.
The XML file is a plain text file that is formatted in a specific way to include all the text, comments, categories, tags etc. You can open the file with a text editor like Notepad. The XML file contains links to your images and other media but does not contain the images themselves.
