File block not supported anymore

  • Unknown's avatar

I started working on a website for a portfolio about a month ago. I had multiple files attached in a file block. When I started more work on this today, the files were still there but there was a message in edit mode that said the file block is not supported unless I put it all in HTML. I want the file block back – I have to do this on at least 20 more pages, and it will take too long to make them all HTML. I tried different themes, and they all said the same thing.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there, according to a Staff reply in this earlier forum thread, the file block was being updated for our platform due to security issues.

Let me add a tag for Staff attention to this thread to ask whether there is any update on this.

  • Hi there,

Can you please confirm which site in your account you’re referring to, and also give a link to a specific post or page (or the title if it’s a draft) where you’re using this block?

What types of files are you trying to upload? The File Block is not currently available in the My Sites editor, but if you edit your content in WP-Admin you should have access to the File Block there. However, for security reasons we only allow specific types of files on WordPress.com:

    Accepted File Types

    Hi, thanks for replying.
The website I’m working on is computersciencerogers.wordpress.com. Going into the WP-Admin part and then editing seems to be working. I didn’t realize it made a difference clicking there. Thank you!!

  • Hi there,

I just wanted to let you know that the file block has now been added in the My Sites editor as well.

Please give it a try, and let us know if you run into any issues using it.
