  • Hi there,

The problem is that you’ve exceeded the 3GB free storage available on the free plan, so there’s no more space for additional images in your library.

I see there are some images in your library as much as 10MB big. If you delete those big images and replace them with optimised versions that are smaller, and a smaller file size, that can potentially free up a lot of space again. But it’s a lot of work, as you’ll need to go image by image, and also manually replace the image in every post where you’ve used it, after replacing it in the media library.

Or you can expand your media storage by upgrading to any of our paid plans. The Personal Plan will give you another 3GB of storage, which can be expanded up to a maximum of 200GB on our Business Plan.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.

Thank you very much for your clear and helpful explanation.
I have upgraded to the personal plan as suggested and hey presto – it all works! I would however like to clear some of the very high size pictures out of back posts. Is there any way of doing a search for these ( I assume in media library)

  • Hi there,

There isn’t a way to sort your images by file size, but as @kokkieh mentioned, you can go image by image within your media library to identify the files that are large, and either optimize & re-upload or delete them.

    Hope this helps.

Hi. Google has tool that’s very helpful in identifying and grouping one’s images, those that have been indexed by Google, of a chosen minimum size. Here’s how:

    1. Go to Google Advanced Image Search, https://www.google.com/advanced_image_search.
    2. In the “Then narrow your results by…” section, at “image size” choose one of the image size or aspect ratio options, for example “Larger than 1024 X 768” or “Larger than 2 MP.”
    3. Click the Advanced Search button. This produces a page with a Google search bar in the center.
    4. Enter “site:sewwatts.wordpress.com” in the the search bar, and then click the search icon, which looks like a magnifying glass. This will produce a grid of images from your site that are indexed by Google, according to the specific size option chosen at the advanced search page. (note: Others following these instructions may replace your site address with their own.)

The process of performing such a search in Google used to be easier, but they removed (or hid) some of the default menu options a while back, so now one has to do it via the Advanced Image Search page.

    Example 1:

Here are the results of a search for images “Larger than 2 MP” found on your site, and indexed by Google.
