File from a wordpress blig still on the Internet
-
Hello,
I have been using the free version of word press for a blog site that I am now revising. I took down all of the old pages and posts and removed the media previously in the library as I am updating all of the material. Some of the media previously on the blog was in a pdf format. If I perform a Google Search, I can still find a file from my original blog on the web. It is found at a URL location very similar to my site…e.g.Click to access nameoffile.pdf
The main difference being the addition of the .files in the URL
I would like to remove this file as it contains old information and it will be updated when I bring my blog back up. Is this file in some sort of wordpress file cache that is associated with my blog? Can someone tell me how to remove it? Thanks in Advance.

That URL produces a 404 page not found message which means it has been deleted. Clear your browser cache please https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

Thanks for the very prompt reply. Sorry I should have been more clear. The URL I had posted was generic.
The “offending” URL is:
https://bewaretherelationshipco.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/trc-public-v10-28-nov-15.pdfI did try clearing my Internet Explorer’s cache but that file is still out there.
The actual URL for my blog site is:
https:bewaretherelationshipco.wordpress.com.
Again the offending URL is:
Click to access trc-public-v10-28-nov-15.pdf
What caught my eye is the addition of .files in the offending URL path name.
Welcome any other suggestions you might have.
Thank You

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? I’m asking because that URL https://bewaretherelationshipco.files.wordpress.com/2015/09/trc-public-v10-28-nov-15.pdf also produces a 404 page not found in other browsers and that’s an indication that you are viewing a cached copy.
To keep things running quickly around here, files are held in multiple caches through a separate system. These caches are usually cleared within 3 days and the files will then become 404 page not found.

Time Thief,
Thanks again for hanging in there with me. I am glad that on your end that the URL in question produces the 404 code.
I normally use IE version 11.
I tried using my Google Chrome browser which, to the best of my knowledge, has never visited the word press site or the offending URL but it still connects and that pdf file is viewed. I also tried deleting cookies and cache in Internet Explorer but again the offending file still pops up.
Thanks for calling for a staff follow-up. I did click on the modlook link underneath TAGS seen on the right hand side bar. Hope that results in the subscribe action you are recommending.
I will continue to look into clearing cookies and cache to be sure I am doing this correctly
Thanks Again

Hello rgjoslin!
I checked your blog history and saw that the file was deleted. I’m also getting the 404 error.
Like @timethief said, you’re viewing a cached copy, it can be from your ISP too. It will clear eventually. The file is not available anymore.

To carinapilar:
Thanks for your post. I am reassured that on your end the file is removed and you get a 404 error. I think your theory about my ISP being the source of that file must be the answer. I went to my wife’s laptop (it was never connected to my blog) and again up popped that file when I connect to the offending URL. It must be coming from my ISP because I have repeatedly cleared cache, browsing history, and cookies etc. and like the “energizer bunny” that file keeps popping up.
Again Thanks to both you and Time Thief
