file naming on media upload

  I uploaded a PDF file yesterday and included a link to it in an email (newsletter) that was sent out. After the email was sent I was given an updated PDF and wanted to replace the previously uploaded file so I deleted the first one from the Media Library and then uploaded the newer file. After the second file uploaded the file name was not as uploaded but had the number 1 added to the end.
  I know that two files can not have the same name in one folder, however if a file is deleted then there should not be a name conflict. Is there a period of time needed for the file to actually be deleted before a new file with the same name can be uploaded without its name being modified? Or is there no way for that to happen?

  Did you follow the instructions given here:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-files

  Perhaps you didn’t follow everything here to the letter of the law. Also, you might need to wait for a few days because of caching.
