File on wordpress
-
Hello,
there is a file published by me (in August 2014) on my WordPress blog but I cannot find it anywhere on my blog, it is only available from Google:
(redacted)
I would like to delete this file. Would it be possible to remove it?
Thank you in advance,
Tamara Zsigmondi

Hi Tamara,
I’ve found this PDF by searching your Media Library:
https://wordpress.com/media/yoginitami.wordpress.com?s=zsigmondi
Click on that file and you should see the option to trash it.
It’s worth noting that deleting the file won’t automatically remove it from Google’s search results — these are something we don’t have any control over. Site changes can take 4-6 weeks to be reflected there but you can make a request for the file to be removed using Google’s Outdated Content tool:
https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/6349986?hl=en
You’ll need to enter the URL from their search results rather than the file URL on WordPress.com.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hey,
thank you so much, I’ve followed your instructions. Hopefully, they will remove it from search results soon as I requested.
Best,
Tamara

Hey,
do you think it is normal that the PDF file is still available as if nothing has happened? It is ok that Google shows link in search results, I understand it but what I don’t get is why it still shows/directs us to the removed file?
Thank you for your help,
Tamara

Hi Tamara,
When a file is removed from our system we will show a “404” page in the place of loading the file. We also show the 404 if the file name is made up for example:
This is by design just as your website shows your theme’s 404 when the pages is not found on the server.

Well, it still shows the same removed PDF file:

That file is no longer on our servers. If you’re still able to load that link it’s possible it’s loading from your browser’s cache. Please your browser cache and history should stop that.
Also keep in mind that aside from appearing in Google search results, the file itself can be cached with Google, meaning it can still be accessed from Google’s servers, even after it’s been removed from ours. There’s nothing we can do about that, as we don’t control if or when Google removes content from their servers.
