file:/// protocol
-
Hello!
we want to use wordpress as an intranet for our company. Its locally hosted on a pc/server. I downloaded WAMP and installed wordpress.
We need to hyperlink to many documents on an fileserver. I searched through google and came across the file://, file:/// and file:///// protocol. This in combination with href should work. When i move over the button i can see the link in the left corner. But when i click on it nothing happens. When i copy the link and paste it in a new tab the document appears. I also downloaded a allow-file-protocol.php plugin. But nothing works…:( Can anyone help me please? -
Hi ggdukas!
From your page did you try to “code in” the documents as links? That often results in what appears to be a link but it will be broken.Instead, you might try clicking on the Add Media icon above the editor. Then click on Add New, and browse to the file. Once you have done this, click the Insert button.
If you really want to type in URLs using the file:// protocol you might try clicking on the Add Media icon above the editor. Click the Add via URL button. Type in the URL then click Upload.
Hope this is helpful!

Hey!
I tried your solution. Now i can open the link via strg or shift + left klick in a new tab or window. But with just left klick it wont work. Is there a way to fix that? -
Hi ggdukas
I am glad you have managed to get the files up where they are accessible. You can control how links act by going into the WP Admin Dashboard. This is done by adding /wp-admin to the site URL.
You may then check the Link Target advanced property from Screen Options to reveal this setting on individual menu items.
