What is the file size limitation for the box.net widget for file sharing??
My files are 50 MB to 150 MB pdf filesIf my files are too large, is there an upgrade via Space Upgrade, or via Box.net??
Many thanks.

Hi sl1k: Many thanks for reply.
That’s why I was asking, because at the box.net site, the free service is only 25MB file size for uploading. Pretty small since even my email file size is 50MB. Unless there is some way to pay for extra file sizes via an upgrade or something, this widget may not be that useful. Possibly one could register at Box.net first, pay for premium service and then install the widget??? Support was not helpful, their response was: “According to the box.net website, file size is unlimited”, which is inaccurate unless you sign up a paid account. -

Hi 1tess: I checked out those sites…pretty good…scribd has a 100MB limit but at this point, I am leaning on filedropper.com which allows up to 5GB file of any type for free and gives you a download link to pass on to whoever. Of course, no widget like box.net.
Many thanks.

No, scribd and issuu enable you to embed your pdf file so they are visible on your blog. If you don’t need to have the visible on you site, then why can’t you just upload the pdfs as downloadable links on your wp.com site?
We have 3 GB of uploaded file space for images and documents here for free. If the documents don’t have to be embedded, then why not take advantage of it?
You can put links to your pdfs into text widgets in your sidebar. I can’t imagine that you want to embed pdfs into your sidebar anyway: too narrow. ???

I wonder what you want to do with the pdfs?
Do you just want them available for your readers to download and print? Or is it information you want them to view on site? If so, can you put that same information on your site as pages rather than as pdfs?

What I was looking for was a way my readers could upload large pdf files for transfer to us, as we are an educational organization. The box.net widget seemed a good way to do this, to allow us and our readers to move large files back and forth. I know I can upload large pdf’s to our wordpress.com site, but readers cannot modify, collaborate etc and reload them. Anyway, many thanks for your time…your ideas were much better than we received from Support, which did not seem to know much about the box.net widget they promote.

I forgot to mention, we did not want to give our users the upload privilege, want more control over our site…

You might look at Drop Box – it allows collaboration and file sharing – won’t integrate or anything into a WordPress.COM site – but might work
