“Filed under” link doesn’t lead to category, leads to some WordPress search list

    Hi,

I’m having some difficulty with people wanting to find stuff I have categorised. When I create a post and assign it to a category, the post appears with the “Filed under {{category x}} {{category Y}}” line under the title.

However, clicking on this doesn’t take them to every post made under that category, it takes them to some global WordPress search list which includes every other blog that uses the same or similar term.

This seems pretty bizzare, but I can’t see a setting in my dashboard to change this. I do have a category list on my blog as well (which works), but the “Filed under” links need to be a category search as well.

Can someone point me to the right setting?

    Cheers,

    Adam

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Nothing bizarre. That is how wordpress.com works. The tags and categories under/over or anywhere next to the post are so-called ‘global’ tags.

The category an tag widgets you add to your sidebar are ‘local’ tags and refer to your blog only.

BTW, with the new INove theme you can chose not to display the global tags.

The categories and tags listed in the post will take people to the global tags pages, which are a source of considerable search engine juice for blogs here since the global tags pages have a very high search engine page rank. Many people get a considerable number of visitors that come to their blog from those pages.

The tags and categories in the sidebar widgets will take people to a listing of the post in your blog only.

There is no way to change this behavior except by going to settings > privacy and selecting the middle option to block search engines from your blog (or set it completely to private and then give access to only those you choose).

The new iNove theme under appearance > iNove theme options does allow you to turn off the tag and category display in the posts, but it is the only theme that gives you that option.

Okay… so that does seem a bit bizzare, really.

However, more importantly, how can I change it so that “Filed under” links to local tags only, without setting my blog to private?

Oops, replied while the other answer was being posted, sorry!

The only way you be able to set your Tags and categories local with out setting your blog private is to go into the privacy settings and choose the option > “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”
